Yoel Romero will return in 12 weeks, labelled gatekeeper for now!

Despite being panned outright by Dana White for his UFC 248 performance, Yoel Romero and his team still believe that he could make a great comeback soon. Catch the full news below!

Yoel Romero

Yoel Romero will return in 12 weeks, labelled gatekeeper for now!

While he might be on the ropes, for the time being, a few knockouts could change everything. Speaking to the press recently, his rep shared that Romero will be able to turn things around when he makes a comeback. ”We can label Yoel as a gatekeeper at this point, but if he knocks out three guys in devastating fashion, everyone’s going to be saying Yoel’s the best middleweight, and he needs another title shot. If guys can’t beat Yoel, then eventually, the only guy left is Yoel.”

Last weekend, UFC President put the blame on Romero’s feet for his action-light title clash with Israel Adesanya. When the question for another title shot came up, White was quick to shut it down. However, he did leave a chance for Romeo if “he comes back in his next fight and looks like Yoel Romero. But if he doesn’t, I wouldn’t expect him to fight another 10 years looking like that”. On the other hand, the 42-year-old Cuban criticised Adesanya for not engaging with him.

Kawa – Romero’s rep – also shared that the loss didn’t affect his dream to become a UFC champion. “I don’t think that’s the case. I think it just depends on the fans. If the fans get behind Yoel and they believe Yoel deserves a shot, the UFC will give him a shot.” Furthermore, Romero should be able to return to action in 12 weeks. His injury from suffering Adesanya’s repeated leg kicks didn’t stop him from walking and dancing at his afterparty. Once again, Kawa is positive that he could earn another title contention with “the right fights” against opponents the UFC.

No moving up

“Everybody questions his weight; this is the second time he’s made championship weight without issue,” Kawa stated. “The idea of him moving up just doesn’t make a lot of sense. He’s made weight all but two times in his life, so I think he gets a pass on that now; he’s made it very clear that this wasn’t his last shot. He’s going to be around for a while.
