It looks like UFC is aiming for a May return with two main fights between Tony Ferguson vs. Justin Gaethje and Henry Cejudo vs. Dominick Cruz. Catch the full news below!

Would a May return be possible for UFC?

After calling off the UFC 249 due to the ongoing pandemic outbreak, it looks like the promotion has a big plan for the future. Based on a recent report, they are now aiming for a big comeback show next month. This occasion would mark their first event since March, and it will include many clashes that were previously booked. In a recent interview, UFC president Dana White has shared more information regarding these fights.

First, there is the interim lightweight title fight between Tony Ferguson vs Justin Gaethje. The clash was supposed to replace Khabib vs Ferguson as the main event of UFC 249. Due to the card falling during the Ramadan holiday, Nurmagomedov won’t be able to participate in the fight. On the other hand, we could be looking at a title defence fight between bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo and Dominick Cruz.

Previously, Cejudo was set to fight Jose Aldo in the main event of UFC 250. However, the Brazilian fighter couldn’t obtain a travel visa to the U.S. As a result, Cruz – who is is universally acknowledged as the greatest bantamweight champion of all time – steps in. His last match took place in 2016, ending with a title lost against Cody Garbrandt. After that, he has gone through several injuries. Now that he’s healthy, we could look forward to his return after four years soon. Besides, UFC women’s featherweight champ Amanda Nunes will also meet Felicia Spencer during the event. This clash will serve as her title defence fight. There will also be a matchup between heavyweight Francis Ngannou and Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Lastly, we should note a rematch between Anthony Pettis and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is also in the list of upcoming matches.

Save the date
