New reports suggest Khabib vs Tony Ferguson is Off!

It looks like the curse on the between Khabib Nurmagomedov versus Tony Ferguson fight hasn’t been lifted yet. Set to take place at the UFC 249, the fight is now facing a big risk of being cancelled due to the coronavirus. This week, MMA has announced the delay of various events, including the upcoming UFC 248 in Madison Square Garden. While this makes sense due to the full lockdown situation, it is a big blow for the diehard fans.

On the other hand, UFC President himself claimed that this fight will still happen as scheduled. However, its location will be the biggest problem. Speaking with the media recently, he stated: “That fight will happen, it will go on. The fans are all freaking out about that, do not worry. Khabib vs. Tony will happen.” In a live stream, Khabib has also shared his thoughts on the upcoming clash and the possible change.

“We’ll see. Next couple of days, Dana’s going to send us the location. We need a maximum of 100 people inside the arena. Close the arena, 100 healthy people come inside and make the show. “Put the camera on pay-per-view, and everybody can fight. People who are quarantined and (are sitting) home, they’ll have fun and watch fights. I think we just need 100 people to make this fight. Put the camera on and show who’s the best lightweight of all time. This is a very important fight, and this is why I like the UFC’s politics. They always try to make the best versus the best.”

Will it take place in the Middle East

Meanwhile, Khabib’s father and manager shared that they believed the fight can take place in the Middle East, as his last match with Dustin Poirier was in Abu Dhabi. “Most likely it will be Dubai. Firstly, it’s easier to fight diseases because of the heat. And I think the Emirates will pay for the UFC fight faster and easier. Abu Dhabi may well be, but then, [that’s up to] Dana White. I can’t approve, but there are more chances there.“
