Khabib Nurmagomedov fires back at criticism for not fighting Ferguson!

Without a doubt, the clash between Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson is one of the most anticipated matches of the year. In case you didn’t know, these two names have been matched up four times before this, but these fights didn’t go through. Now, they were set to headline the UFC 249 event, where Khabib would be defending his current title. Now, amid the pandemic outbreak, Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson once again won’t happen.

During a live stream on Instagram, Nurmagomedov shared that he initially informed received a notice that UFC 249 would be moving to Abu Dhabi. Interestingly, this location is also the same one where Khabib defended his title this past year. However, Abu Dhabi was eventually caught amid the coronavirus pandemic as people were asked to stay at home. In many ways, Khabib feels like he’s been made the scapegoat by UFC 249 when he ultimately decided not to fight anymore.

“No. 1 thing that makes me crazy is when people say I pull out or I do something. I (don’t) understand this. I’m still training since December. I train very hard since December. I come to the U.S. because UFC gives me location, New York, Barclays Center; I trained 40 days, then when everything goes crazy, they say the U.S. is 100% no fight. So we move to Abu Dhabi, Dubai. Why? Because they told me 99%, it’s going to be in Dubai. This is not my problem. I don’t make a mistake. One more time, I want to say I am Khabib, I am not coronavirus.”

Will Ferguson vs Justin Gaethje get booked for UFC 249?

After Khabib’s announcement, Ferguson took aimed at him; saying the lightweight titleholder was “scared” to face him. He also claimed that Nurmagomedov should be stripped of his title. On the other hand, there has been a rumour going around saying Ferguson could potentially meet Justin Gaethje for his next clash. However, with the ongoing pandemic and location problem, there will be a lot to discuss before any fight could happen.
