Recently, Poirier has met Dan Hooker at the UFC Apex, taken place in Las Vegas. In short, we could say that this was a savage match from beginning to end. Furthermore, their battle could rival the Weili Zhang v Joanna Jedrzejczyk clash for the title of the best fight. Both fighters have shown their skills, grit, and heart throughout the great match. While Poirier walked away as the winner, his rival was the one who has won the fans’ respect.

In the first two rounds, Hooker was the controller when he almost took down his rival in the second stanza. However, he slowed down in the third part, where ‘The Diamond’ finally got the chance to read his movement. The UFC also soothed him with a fight-of-the-night bonus. Furthermore, as they both started with violent moves, the fight became more technical as it was neared conclusion. Additionally, Poirier was fighting very effectively, contrary to his rival, who has suffered damage from below.

By the end, he walked out with a unanimous decision win. On one side, this victory marked redemption for him after his loss to Khabib last year. However, the man is not in any rush to come back. In an after-match interview, he has described the toll that his body and mind have suffered: “I want to go home to be with my daughter. It was the longest layoff of my career. I had to take nine months off and sit on the sidelines, and I couldn’t put weight on my leg for eight weeks. I’d like to overcome some things. I want to stay in love with this sport, and I don’t want to push myself to where I hate this. I just want to do it right and give it my all the right way.”

Respect

While Hooker lost the clash, ‘The Hangman’ still held his head up high. Recently, he has shared about his current condition. “Everything’s all good. Just a couple stitches on the eye, but that’s the game we play. No worries. It’s just a small setback, and I’ll be back.”
