Coach Owen Roddy: Conor McGregor vs Justin Gaethje can take place in July!

For the past few weeks, the UFC has called off many of their events due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. So far, the promotion has cancelled a total of three events in hope of stopping the virus from spreading. However, UFc President Dana White still guarantees that the UFC 249, which is set to take place mid-April, will continue as scheduled. In case you didn’t remember, the main event of this time will be the long-awaited fight between Khabib and Tony Ferguson

On the other hand, many eyes are now placed on Conor McGregor and his next moves. This week, Owen Roddy has finally given us more details of the Notorious’s plan: another fight! During a recent interview, McGregor’s coach stated that they are currently in talks for a summer match. According to him, this fight can help bring the promotion back on track after its long break. “I think a fight on July 11 would bring the UFC back to life and get everybody back on track.

So my fingers are crossed and I’m sure the rest of the world fingers are crossed for that fight.” The Irishman’s last time in the cage was in January, where he knocked out Donald Cerrone within 40 seconds mark. This was no doubt an impressive start for his return to the MMA world. Furthermore, his team had shared that he plans to fight a total of three times this year. As a result, a July match will be the next perfect step in his schedule. Now, all that left is to find an opponent for him.

Who will take on McGregor?

While Dana White wanted him to fight for the lightweight title next, there is still a problem of Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson clash being cancelled due to the virus. If this happens, we doubt the Irishman would want to jump in to take on Khabib. Furthermore, it seems like Roddy has his eyes on another name: Justin Gaethje. “There is a lot of talk about Gaethje. I mean, he’s an exciting fighter, Gaethje. I would like to see it, I’m sure you’d like to see it, and I’m sure the rest of the world would like to see it. So yeah, potentially that, but to be honest, anyone. I know Conor is raring to go and everyone will be raring to go by the time July comes around.”
