While the fight between Aleksandar Rakic and Anthony Smith might not be the most entertaining match of this year, it indeed shows off their dominant power greatly. On one side, we have the Aleksandar Rakic, who was born in Serbia and raised in Vienna. With a remarkable physique and incredible strength, Rakic is a freak athlete. On the other hand, his rival – Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith – had significant high stakes.

During the post-pandemic UFC era, Smith has met Glover Teixeira in the first main event. However, the match didn’t turn out as he wanted. The night’s most memorable memory must be when he picked up his teeth and handed them to Jason Herzog. Now with Jon Jones out of the title scene, it looks like he’s getting another opportunity. If he manages to get a dominant victor over Rakic, it could put him back in the title contention list.

Once again, fate isn’t on his side. At the UFC Apex night, Rakic suffocated him throughout their match. In the first round, they exchanged leg kicks, with Rakic causing the most damage. He successfully landed a trio one after the other. This move proved to be a success when Smith was taken down at one point. Later, he tried to steer ground-and-pound, but Smith managed to scramble and even attempt to take the European fighter’s back. Unfortunately, his rival broke free and smashed him on the ground. While we didn’t see much damage, it must be quite suffocating for him. By this time, many showed worry for Smith’s leg. Finally, Rakic completedly suffocated his rival in the third round. Moreover, one of the judges even rated this round as a 10-8 for Rakic.

A call for a title shot

After a clear-cut decision, Rakic raised for a title shot. Nevertheless, he’ll need to see how Glover Teixeira and Thiago Santos perform. If one of them could produce a more entertaining performance, they should claim a shot against the winner of Dominick Reyes v Jan Blachowicz. If this happens, Rakic would have to settle for fellow rising star Jiri Prochazka.
